The word 'gospel' means good news and the good news that the Church proclaims is all about Jesus.
The gospel tells us that although we are lost and broken and unable to fix ourselves, God has come to find us and save us. To do this, he became a man, Jesus of Nazareth, who lived a human life doing what is right in all ways, dying on a cross so that our sins could be forgiven, and rising again to defeat death.
Being reconciled to God does not depend on our own actions, or how hard we try to do what is right. It is based on Jesus's actions and the faith that we put in him.
Being accepted by Jesus by grace has transformative power in our lives. We are free from trying to earn God's approval, which makes us free to love him out of gratitude and joy. The way we now live is motivated by thankfulness for what God has done and love for him, rather than obligation.
By God's grace, we hope to resemble Jesus more and more. We are called to love our neighbours and our world whether they believe in the same way we do or not. Jesus who is the king of the world became a servant, and in the same way we need to serve others sacrificially.
Thinking about Jesus is not enough to fulfill or transform you. Curiosity is good but it is only the first step. We encourage you to begin reading God's word and to get involved in a Church community where you can learn and grow.
We are so excited that you are beginning this journey and we would love to talk with you more about who Jesus is and what the church is.
